Running and lessons learned
I was just going to go to the gym and spin and try a new tabata workout, but as soon as I stepped outside I knew I had to at least try to run. I am so over passing up beautiful weather because of injuries!  So ran I did! I decided to run to my Fleet Feet store which is right along my running loop to see if they could offer any last minute advice for figuring out what may be causing my tendon...

Today was WINDY.
Much to windy to wear a dress. MISTAKE. Eh.  I’m eating PIZZA tonight. Aside from eating it in Chicago, I haven’t had pizza in over a year. I consider it one of my ‘fear foods’—that if I eat it, my world will go to crap because OMGIJUSTATEPIZZA. Must stop this thinking. Therefore, I’m making HEALTHY pizza, but still something I can indulge with. Bring it...

Fun things Friday: Excited edition!
I haven’t been posting much about my personal life lately because, well, it’s not that interesting. I go to school, learn things, go to work, do things, go to the gym, lift/spin/run on things, repeat.  BUT BUT BUT As of last Friday, I GOT A (kick-a) JOB! <—-Can you tell I’m excited? I interviewed back at the end of January, and very impatiently waited for the yay or...

Flashback Friday
Last March, I met Robin for the first time at the Little Rock Marathon Expo! Fifteen pounds down a year ago from that picture. An amazing friend made. Robin is a HUGE mentor of mine and I have a lot to thank her for!  The LR half was my second half marathon. Since then, I’ve taken over 30 minutes off of that half time, run 5 more halfs, and run a full marathon.  2011 was a huge year for...

Reminder to myself:
*You’re stronger than you think you are. * I can pity party around all day long and worry about the ‘what ifs’ of my upcoming marathon and what is going to happen. I’m nervous about injury, , about things I have no control of (weather), and most importantly—failing. My body is where it needs to be in terms of training. I know I can make it across that finish...

Hey Brenna, it’s called GLOVES. I guess I’m just not as hardcore as you.  I had a pretty awesome gym sesh tonight. I’m convinced my spin instructor was trying to kill us, which I appreciate. I can tell I pushed my limits tonight, and that’s hard for me to do on the bike. Getting better!  Spin (1 hour) Yoga/Pilates Fusion (1 hour-I call it Yolates). 2k m Rowing ...

Work hard, play hard
Homemade sweet potato fries for study fuel. It’s always fun to come home after work, exhausted, and realize you have an exam at 8am tomorrow.  BUT…I do at least have the day off work tomorrow, and only two classes. Tuesdays are my favorite gym days because I get to take my favorite spin class and pilates class! Maybe I’ll try to run for a bit tomorrow. Oh, and I also have...

Being honest with yourself...
…is really, really hard sometimes.  Even just walking around today, my Achilles hurts. Not extreme pain, but enough to tell me something isn’t right. NOLA is two weeks from today.  I have two consecutive marathons at the end of April/beginning of March. Warrior Dash in  May. A 50k in July. Half marathons in July and September. A marathon in October, November, and December.  I want...

Not a huge fan of snow. We’ve got less than an inch, but in TN that equals 2 feet, which is enough for everyone to freak out, drive like idiots, and drain the bread and milk stocks at grocery stores.  It is pretty, though! I wish my tendon felt good enough that I could go for a run.

lifebeforethirty asked: Anna-- Since I've started running and eating healthy, I feel like I am not allowed to treat myself, and when I do, i over-exercise to compensate for my gluttony. I have lost nearly 50 pounds, and I guess I am afraid I'll end up the way I was. How often do you treat yourself with unhealthiness and what do you usually go for?

The taper crazies.
I’ve got them. Since this is my first REAL taper, (I don’t count my first marathon) I’m really allowing myself to get in my own head. I don’t know why it’s so hard to just shut my brain off. Do I really have any business running a marathon after battling so many injuries? I missed my last long run, mid-week runs, things hurts, so how is this a good idea? Well, I ran...

In a shocking turn of events...
Today will be a rest day. I’m catching up and getting ahead on homework, the two months worth of magazines I’m behind on, and stretching/rolling.  I didn’t go into it yesterday, but I completed a virtual half marathon For the Love of the Kids, and it was a little less than spectacular. I made it 6.5 miles before my achilles/calf started to ache, and walked the last 6 miles....

Protein Waffles!
If you’re constantly looking for a healthy snack/meal, I think this one is a winner. It’s healthy, protein-packed, and even Paleo-friendly. I spent way too much time with my waffle maker trying to make this one good.  So pull out your waffle maker, plug it in, and mix together the following ingredients: 1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder 1/4 cup egg whites 1/2 mashed banana ...

Happy Valentine's Day to me...
Heart-shaped clean pancakes, of course. My pancakes love me.  NOLA W12 13.1 Mi (For the Love of the Kids virtual half) Also, I did some type of cross fit death workout involving 100 burpees, 250 sit-ups, 120 squats, and 80 push-ups. Dead.  I’ve also cleaned EVERYTHING today. Like, the deep cleaning on your hands and knees that makes you want to cry (but most likely because you got...

Virtual Run for Sherry
Even though I didn’t do my long run today because I didn’t want to push an injury, I still wanted to do something to commemorate Sherry. If you don’t know who Sherry is, you can read about what happened to her below: On January 7, 2012, my cousin Sherry, age 43, left her house in the small town of Sidney, Montana at 6:30 a.m. for an early morning run. She didn’t always run...

How much cross-training = a 20 mile run?
2.5 hours on the bike, ~30 stair stepper. 5k run. I figured 20 miles would take me about 3:20:—, so that’s what I did. My legs feel great and awful at the same time, but I definitely don’t have any tendon pain! I’ll call it a win.  Can I still eat all the things?

Usually Saturdays are no different from any other day. I wake up, suffer through 9 hours of exhausting work, go to the gym, come home and finish whatever homework/studying I have left to do. But today I took off work because, get this…I was going to run 22 miles. Now, with a tendon on the edge of injury, I have been talked out of doing my long run and told to stop being stubborn. My...

I didn't eat the brownies,
And the world DID NOT END.  Sometimes it’s really, really hard to pass up sweets. Most of the time I ask myself if I’m really benefitting my body by eating processed junk, or if I’m actually even hungry. Usually that works, but sometimes you just really want a stupid brownie. In the past, I’d justify eating one, because it was just one brownie. Then I’d eat a...

Feeling a little less broken...
…thanks to spin and pilates. I barely made it to spin class on time, got one of the last free bikes, and made it through class. The instructor mentioned there was another class 15 minutes later, so I figured why not stay. 15 minutes after spin, there was a pilates class, so I opted to do that instead of wait for yoga which was an hour later.  I realllllly underestimated pilates. I feel...
