Time to do it right.
It’s time to stop being lazy, and stick to my running schedule. I’ve slacked off the past two weeks with the craziness of the holidays and now I need to get back to it. I ended up doing p90x and a quick jog around the block rather than my 4 miles. BAD. I need to stay on schedule. I’m going to do the 4 miles I was supposed to do today, tomorrow, and whatever I can fit in before...

Crazy week
Why are the holidays such a busy time of year? It seems like this past week went by in one day. My running has suffered, too…after working since last Friday. I squeezed in a 3 mile run on Monday and will try a 4 miler today. However, I have actually been experiencing a little tiny bit of knee pain in my right knee, which kind of scares me because I have never had knee pain. It’s a...

Redeemed.
Yeah, so I didn’t run for the past 4 days. I can blame 3 out of 4 on lack of time and work, but yesterday I was a lazy bum. But hopefully my 5 mile run today makes up for it. It was my first run in the rain (aside from my half-marathon in April), and it was kind of liberating. Cold, but liberating. I think the rest did me some good, as the miles came easily. I kept a consistent 11 min/mile...

Done!
I am finally finished with this semester. Woohoo! And I had a quite productive day. I ran my 3 miles….in 29:01!!!! Granted, my pace was only that fast because I did speedwork on the treadmill, but it’s still something for me to be proud of. I remember not being able to run faster than a 12 minute mile. Any improvement is a good improvement. Tomorrow I will try to fit in my 3...

Week 2
Rest days feel so much better after you know you’ve worked hard. But alas, they don’t last forever. Today begins week 2, and I have 3 miles on my list. I’m pretty sure I’ll be running on the treadmill for this week…way too cold outside. I’ll have to run 3 miles tomorrow and Wednesday as well, and 4 miles for my long run on Friday. I’ve chosen Tuesdays for...

Success!
First week of training is done! I know the first week may be the easiest, but I’m glad I got it done. I did 4.03 miles in 45:35 today, about an 11:15 pace. I wanted to keep an 11:30 pace but I am so bad at pacing. My garmin kept telling me it was going to die, but it never did, so I’m surprised my pace ended up being that fast. I had an abdominal cramp that wouldn’t leave me...

Just push a little harder
A lot of my runs always end up the same way. I’ll tell myself I’ll have an ‘easy’ run today, and then end up wanting a certain time goal so I push harder to meet it. I did something today I never did last year in training….hills and speedwork. I realize how much better, faster, and enjoyable my runs would be in the future and the marathon itself if I start doing these...

1 Corinthians 9:24
“Do you not know that in a race all the runners run, but only one gets the prize? Run in such a way as to get the prize.” When you work hard to achieve something and put your heart into it, it will never be out of reach. Sometimes it’s easy to forget who we are and why we were put here on this Earth. Most of us get caught up in daily troubles and lose sight of what is at the end...

Light will guide you home...
I had a great run tonight. I really didn’t want to run because it’s so cold outside, but the treadmill didn’t sound any better, so I went outside and made myself run my prescribed 3 miles. I ran my fastest 5k distance yet, and it felt great. 32:08. I haven’t ever run 3 consecutive miles that fast, in cold weather at that. I kept thinking of things that motivated me, such as...

ramblingsofkeely asked: That's so cool that you're training for a marathon, I just ran my first 5K (seems so lame compared to a marathon) and am now addicted to running races!

Thanks for the follow!

Week 1
Marathon training commenced today. I am going to follow Hal Higdon’s Novice Marathon training program, and if I need to at some point, drop down to his half-marathon program. I am adding 3 extra weeks to his 18 week plan. His week one long run starts at 6 miles, and I want to start at 4, so I’m adding a few extra weeks so I can comfortably cover the distance. I am prescribed to run 3...

It is inevitable...
to be ‘good’ over the holidays. I haven’t run in a week, have eaten some ‘holiday’ food, and I don’t really feel that bad about it. I will run today, but only a few miles. Life is in the crazy right now-work is busy, school is ending, and everything is happening now. So, instead of adding on the pressure of training, I’m going to put it off until next...

Christmastime is here...
I tried to post a pic of our Christmas tree in my previous blog, but to no such avail…so I finally was able to upload it. And I also stayed up late making Christmas cookies, even though it is only an hour into the month of December. Our place is beginning to look holiday-ish with some decorations. I love Christmas.
