Hello long run!
I ate this for breakfast (english muffin, natural peanut butter, and a banana) for energy since I was going to do my long run today. By the way, it is absolutely delicious and will keep you full all day long. I set out for my run around 11:30a.m. I fail to realize how much traffic there is on a Friday afternoon in Nashville, but was quickly reminded of it. Luckily I remembered to restart my...

Me.
I’ve realized a weight loss/health blog probably isn’t that interesting (to those of you who actually do read this) if there are no pictures. So, I’ve decided to post a timeline of pictures from my weight loss.                                                       In the beginning. This is a picture from Feb. 2009. Obviously, I didn’t like having my picture taken (hence...

Today was a very weird food day. I ate an english muffin with peanut butter and banana slices for breakfast. For lunch I made some teriyaki chicken, sauteed onions and zucchini, and some asparagus. For dinner I made a wrap with a whole wheat tortilla, mozzerella, salsa, and shredded chicken. And then….the snacks. For some reason nothing could satisfy...

Some days you just don't feel like it
So I decided not to run today and give some attention to strength training. I did AbRipperX, which is probably my most favorite workout ever, and then 3x 20 reps of bicep curls, tricep extensions, and overhead tricep extensions, 30 pushups, and 3x 20 reps of lunges and squats. I’m starting to feel like I’m never going to reach my goal weight. I feel that as much as I workout and eat...

Lunch.
Now, I’m no chef, but I do enjoy cooking and making new healthy recipes. This is a whole wheat tortilla, a few tablespoons of tomato sauce, a little basil, garlic, and oregano, shredded chicken, onions and bell peppers, and a little mozzerella. The best part: 200 calories.

FTW!
You know all those pennies you see on the ground and never pick up? Yeah, well I’m the person that goes out of my way to snatch them up. If you don’t think it adds up, think again. $70 bucks in pennies.

bendoeslife: How often did you laugh, and how often did you make others laugh? It’s been said thousands of times, but it bears repeating. Do things not to make the most money or to make yourself look good. Do the things that are going to make you happy and, hopefully, help others along the way. Do…

Why we're fat- an article from the Tennessean
TennCare will pay for obesity surgery, not dietary counseling In state where a third of the population is obese, TennCare won’t pay for the counseling services of a dietitian to help people lose weight, but it will cover bariatric surgeries once they get big enough to qualify. Nearly 400 obese TennCare patients have undergone the surgery in the past five years at an average cost of...

Woot!
7 mile long run completed. 1:17:26. I woke up late and had to squeeze it in before work so I rushed to get dressed and drove to the park. I ate a couple bites of a clif bar and drank some water and I was off. I really need to find another way to carry my keys…I had a zip up pocket on my shirt, but the zipper broke so I just ended up carrying them the whole time. I find the first half of any...

Intensity.
I firmly believe that nothing worth having in this life comes easy. Weight loss sure as heck doesn’t. To reach your goals, there’s one simple principle: consistency. If you give up, you immediately set yourself up for failure. If you’re consistent, you will always reach your goals. In keeping with consistency in my running schedule, I also have decided to add intensity. I ran 3...

What do you have excuses for?
I think this applies to more than just running or exercising-I think it’s a great reminder of what is going on in our lives. I’m very easily able to talk myself out of things before I even begin them. I can talk myself out of eating healthy one meal because it’s just one meal, or it’s with a friend, or I don’t have time. I can talk myself out of taking an...

bendoeslife: To Run. A very popular question in my ask box goes something like this: “I want to start running. How did you start? What advice do you have for someone who wants to start running?” And the first thing you have to realize is very simple… In the beginning, running sucks. It sucks bad. It took me a month and a half before I started to enjoy myself. God Almighty herself could...

Thursday?
A lot is happening today. Okay, not really. The semester begins today (why it can’t just start on a Monday always baffles me) and I get to run today! I’m trying to be more positive and say “I get to” instead of “I have to.” Yep. Negativity doesn’t get you anywhere, right? I have a really busy/hard semester ahead of me; most of my classes are senior level...

Ready
You’d think I had a disease or something. I haven’t been able to run in over a week. Looks like I may finally be able to tomorrow, but I feel unmotivated after a week off. Maybe the extra rest will work for me instead of against me, but I can’t help thinking it won’t. My throat still has a little tickle in it but I plan on working out for a while today, hopefully I can get...

Just do it...
Best motivational Nike quote ever… You pretended the snooze button didn’t exist. You dragged your butt out of bed while other slept. While other ate their pancakes, you had a feast of protein, glucose and electrolytes. You double-knotted. You left the porch light on and locked the door behind you. You ran. 5ks, 10ks, 26.2 miles. Some days more, some days less. You rewarded a long run with a...

Things I've learned from being sick
1. I’m beginning to crave exercise. My throat still hurts a little and I know I probably shouldn’t run yet, but I feel like I’m already out of shape and it will be hard to get back where I was. I pass people running outside and get kind of jealous. 2. When I can’t taste anything, I eat less. This could work for me if it hung around long enough, but that would be annoying....

Sick.
I guess you can’t always avoid getting sick, although I’ve been pretty good at it. I have a really sore throat/headache/stuffy nose thing that has hung around for 3 days and I just want it to go away. I want to run! I’m probably going to have to re-do last week. Hopefully this will all be gone by Monday and I can start the week off right!

Yuck.
Not feeling so well today. I woke up and my throat was scratchy and my head a little warm. I need to go run my 3 miles but I feel like the 35 degree weather won’t treat me so well. I may do some p90x or weights or something. I just have to sqeeze a run in on my rest day Friday.

Well, hello there
140’s. I’ve just now come to realize after over a year on this weight loss journey of mine that it is important to be honest with yourself. When you’re losing weight, it’s easy. But when you’re gaining it, you find ways to distract yourself from it, and keep yourself from confronting the truth. Up until last June I was successfully losing weight slowly and got down...

1000. 20. 1.
My New Years Resolutions are going to be more like my goals for the year- I be okay if I don’t fully accomplish them as long as I’m making progress and being consistent at them. So, my fitness resolutions for this 2011 are running 1000 miles, losing my last 20 pounds, and running 1 marathon. I started off the year with a fantastic 6 mile run yesterday in 1:07:30. I was a little...
