The take off.
File under: Reasons you should come visit me in Chicago. Reasons I love my friends. Reasons you shouldn’t eat Lou Malnati’s pizza with a bunch of runners. Reasons I’ll go in the alley behind my house after dark.
Proof. And no one puked. Fastest mile ever!!

2011, it's been great.
I’m sitting at the airport, with some time before my flight leaves. I’ve had this post on queue for a while, so I figure now is a good time to finish it.
Despite dealing with some injuries, this year has been the best year of my life, without a doubt.
I had one goal for 2011: to run a marathon. I reached my goal, although barely, and had a great year along the way.
The last...

FINALLY
I can run and I don’t completely feel like dying. I still had some shin pain, but I’m wondering if it’s something that just needs to work itself out. Still keeping an eye on it and doing really well with icing/stretching.
And to my secret santa buddy who gave me the KT tape- I love it! I was always skeptical about it, but it really helped take the edge off with some pain...

Goodbye, plateau
In my sports nutrition class last semester, one of our final projects was to learn how to perform a full nutritional assessment and consultation for a client. This includes documenting their personal health history and dietary intake information, a list of current medications and supplements, a food record, and a training or exercise log.
I thought it would be interesting to do a full assessment...

GPOY Monday
Truth: I haven’t worked out in almost two weeks. I need that realize that just because I can’t run, doesn’t mean I can’t move. Yes, I’ve worked nearly 50 hours this week. I’m busy. But the thing to remember is there is always going to be someone busier than you, so suck it up. Gym will happen tomorrow.
Truth: Although I haven’t exercised much,...

Check it, tight pants
I got a Christmas gift that I’ve been lusting after for months- CW-X tights! After hearing how amazing they are, I’ve been wanting some for a long time. They aren’t cheap though, so I was happy when I got them yesterday!
I knew they would be tight (because they’re compression tights) but I seriously had to do a dance to get in these. I may have even had to give myself a...

Another year, another great Christmas
I hope everyone had a fantastic Christmas. Although I spent 13 hours at work, and my feet hurt more than they did after my marathon, it was one of the best Christmases I’ve had thus far. (Pics stolen from sister).
I’m really loving seeing everyone’s posts with all of their new running gear or fitness equipment! You all know what to do now-don’t let all that new stuff go...

A special (super early) holiday shout-out to @fat-to-fast from me and TSwift, who apparently has magical powers.
What? You don’t record yourself lip-syncing Christmas songs while driving down the Interstate in mid-November?
Just in case anyone forget about this little gem…
Merry Christmas!
Laughter is contagious!

My advice to me
I sit here, thinking about the new year that is just 8 days away. Every January since I’ve had my blog I make a list of New Years resolutions, and every December I look back and see that I’ve failed most of them. They’re on my mind for a few days, maybe a few weeks, and then I forget all about them. I’ll still make a list this year, but I’ll carry out my resolutions...

Oh, steroids.
Since I’m having a long and difficult time recovering from the marathon at the beginning of the month, I decided to call my doctor to see if he would prescribe me another steroid pack. (He was so excited to hear me tell him I actually (wo)man’d up and ran the full!) He gave me another 6 day pack of Prednisone (I love this man) which really helped when I took it in November. He said he...

Ideas that I wish were my own
Tonight I made Rachel’s famous chicken braids, and someone on Pinterest’s idea for baked potato chips which were FANTASTIC. I’ll never eat a potato any other way ever again. And I obvs didn’t invent green beans. One day I’ll come up with some cool recipes.

If not now, then when?
When I first started this blog in 2009, it was a weight loss blog. I started it the day I began running, and about a month after I started to lose weight. That December, I signed up for the Country Music Half Marathon, my first race other than a couple of 5k’s, and by April I had lost 30 lbs and completed my first half marathon.
BUT…
Since April of 2010, I’ve been stuck at a...

What's in store for tonight?
I’m hosting a Christmas-Brinner-Movie Party, complete with every breakfast food you can think of, and mimosas.
Ugly sweater Christmas parties are so last year.
(EDIT: I promise this isn’t turning into a food blog. You tend to get creative when I can’t run.)

A much needed NSV
Isn’t it the worst feeling in the world when you realize you forget something and there’s nothing you can do about it? We’re required to wear suit jackets at my job and wouldn’t luck have it that all of mine are still at the dry cleaners because I forgot to pick them up yesterday.
Then I found this one buried deep in the closet. It has never fit, or even come close to...

Why yes! I will bake you brownies for a donation!
Double layer reese’s cup brownies, to be exact! I didn’t think I’d get any baking requests in return for St. Jude donations, but I’m really enjoying this, and it’s a win-win because I know I can’t eat any. My donor might want part of his $10 back if he notices a brownie missing…
Also, I got a workout challenge for a $5 donation that I plan on...

NOLA WK4/KW1 3.1 miles (10:38 pace)
Easy 5k. I’ve decided to skip the long run this weekend and continue on with recovery. Yes, I could’ve run farther, but at the point where it starts to hurt is usually a signal for me to stop. I underestimated the intensity and toll a marathon takes on your body, and I still have places (shin and achilles) that are bothering me. However, this...

Bringing back the carb-loading
Oh sweet, sweet pancakes. Blueberry chocolate chip for tonight. And an omelette. Take that, Justin.
14 miles on tap for tomorrow, and quite honestly, it could either go very well or very badly. I’ve run 2 miles since the marathon and they hurt, so I took another week off. Hopefully I’ll be back to 100% soon!
Hoping these pancakes are magical.
Productivity at work.
